リノ・アベリラ/これは1975年のサーファー誌からスキャンしたもの。スミノフコンテスト1974のダン・マーケルさんによる見開き写真。フェイスで25フィートでのコンテスト（この頃のハワイアンは波をフェイスサイズでは表現しなかったので、わざわざ(face)とキャプションしてある）この板はリノ自身のシェイプか、あるいはまだロペスさんのシェイプか、、、でもこの翌年の1975のスミノフではトム・パリッシュのシェイプだった。いずれにしてもワイメアを滑るボルトガンは美しい。ましてリノが乗ることがそれを強調している。そんなことをふと思った…コロナ禍の連休にて。2020〜2021/mayday.・・・mar 2026 元気でいてくださることを祈って。
Reno Abellira. This is a scan from a 1975 issue of Surfer Magazine—a double-page photo by Dan Markel capturing the 1974 Smirnoff contest. It was a 25-foot face (interestingly, the caption specifically notes ‘face’ because Hawaiians back then didn’t usually measure waves by face size).
I wonder if this board was Reno’s own shape or still one by Lopez… although by the following year’s Smirnoff in 1975, it was a Tom Parrish. Regardless, a Lightning Bolt gun gliding through Waimea is a thing of beauty. And The beauty is amplified because it’s Reno at the helm.
